We are writing to inform you of a global shortage of oestradiol patches, a type of hormone replacement therapy (HRT). This shortage is affecting New Zealand.
What this means for you:
- You may experience delays in receiving your prescription.
- In some cases, your doctor may need to adjust your prescription to a different brand or dosage of oestradiol patch, or recommend an alternative form of HRT, such as gels or tablets if this is required you will need to book an appointment to see your GP.
- You may need to cut existing patches into smaller pieces to achieve your required dose.
We understand this can be frustrating and may cause concern. We want to assure you that we will work closely with you to find solutions and ensure you continue to receive the treatment you need.
Here’s what you can do:
- Contact your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about your HRT and you are impacted by the supply shortage.
- Be prepared to discuss alternative treatment options with your doctor.
- If your pharmacy is unable to fill your prescription, ask them to check with other pharmacies or wholesalers for availability.
